Directly underneath the model is a motorized rover driving back and forth along a track. A wireless camera on the rover transmits images of the model onto the surface of the dome via the computer network. Under the dome a soft pillowed environment invites viewers to lie back and watch the projected images and listen to a mix of audio files from NASA's space probes and live audio from the rover. A joystick is also available under the dome so that the rover can be driven remotely. As the rover is being driven the networked printer, located off to one side, continuously prints stills from the video signal. Over time a mound of printouts form documenting isolated moments from the journey.</big></small></span><br> <span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><small><big>In this installation the sculptural objects, images, and sound are networked together to re-create the experience of staring up at the night sky to watch the stars. This transformation is achieved by mixing the digital processes of framing, compressing, and re-scaling of images and sound together with commonplace materials. Proposing an altered relationship between the viewers and the physical environment: as the viewers are visually and aurally immersed under the dome, the location outside becomes secondary as the imagination takes over creating a parallel experience in real-time.</big></small></span><br> <span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"></span></div> <span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><br> <br> Quicktime <a target="none" href="quicktimes/SiderealProjections.mov">video documentation<br> </a><br> <br> </span> <div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><img style="width: 320px; height: 240px;" alt="screen1" src="artimages/project1.gif">&nbsp;<img style="width: 320px; height: 240px;" alt="screen" src="artimages/SPscreendetail.gif">&nbsp;<img style="width: 320px; height: 194px;" alt="rover" src="artimages/rover%20011.jpg"> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"></span><big style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><small> </small></span></big><br> <big style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><small></small></span></big><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><small><big>Sidereal Projectioins was installed for the first time at Videopool Media arts Centre in Winnipeg March 2007.</big></small></span><br> <span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><small><big></big></small></span><br> <span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><big><small></small></big></span><br> <span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><big><small></small> </big></span><small style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" class="style4">All images and texts on this site are copyright of Erika Lincoln unless otherwise noted and are not to be reproduced in any form without express consent of the author.</span></small><br> <small style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" class="style4">©Erika Lincoln 2008</span></small></div> </body> </html>
